July 4th Card

After over 15 months of trying to manage with only a wifi hotspot on my cell phone to work for internet at my house, Our neighborhood finally got Cable One service last week and mine was installed today!  That's the reason for the long break!  But now I am back and hope to post at least once a week!

This post is really early, but I'm working ahead on my card swap projects!  This card is for the 4th of July and was cut entirely using my Silhouette machine!  I downloaded several die cuts from Silhouette including a picket fence, grass, sun and clouds, and a July 4th graphic.  Below are the steps for making this cute three dimensional card!

Supplies:
  • Red cardstock
  • Royal blue cardstock
  • Light blue cardstock
  • White cardstock
  • Green cardstock
  • Yellow cardstock
  • Yellow plastic button
  • Yellow and white bakers twine
  • Red bakers twine
  • Light blue ink pad and sponge dobber
  • 1/16 inch pop dots
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scrapbook adhesive
  • Scotch tape
Instructions:
  • Create the card base using red cardstock. Score at 6 inches and then cut the sheet in half perpendicular to the score line to form two pieces of 6 X 12 inch pieces.  Fold one piece in half on the score line.
  • Cut a square 5 3/4 X 5 3/4 inches of white cardstock.  Place on the inside of the card in the area where you would write your message.  I left my card blank on the inside.  You can stamp a sentiment if you like.
  • Cut a square 5 3/4 X 5 3/4 inches of light blue cardstock.

  • I used my Silhouette to cut the following pieces:
    • 5 3/4 X 4 inch white picket fence
    • 3/4 X 5 3/4 inch piece of green grass
    • 1 - small white cloud (approximately 1 X 2 inches)
    • 1 - medium white cloud (approximately 1 1/4 X 3 inches)
    • 1 - yellow sun (approximately 2 X 2 inches)
  • I printed the July 4th graphic on my printer.  I downloaded the graphic from Silhouette.com, the same site where the die cuts were downloaded from.  Trim the graphic and mat with the royal blue cardstock.. Trim mat to 1/8 inch n all 4 sides.
  • Assemble the button and yellow and white bakers twine.
Place a piece of the twin through the two holes of the
button and tie in a knot on top.
  • Ink the edges of the clouds with the light blue ink pad and
    sponge dobber.
  • Making the bunting:
    • Cut a dark blue piece of paper in a 1 X 12 inch strip.
    • Cut a red piece of paper in a 1/2 X 12 inch strip.
    • Using adhesive, glue the red piece to one edge of the blue strip.
    • Place the strip on a scoring board and score ever 1/4 inch the entire length of the strip.
    • Cut the scored strip in half at 6 inches.
    • Accordion fold each strip and press firmly to crease well.
    • Place a big blob of hot glue on a scrap piece of paper.  Fan out the accordion folded piece to form a half circle and place on top of the hot glue blob.  Hold in place until set.  Cut off excess backing paper.  HINT:  fan the bunting with the red on the outside.  The single thickness blue will work better in the center than the double thickness will!  I learned this by messing up two buntings before I figured it out!
    • Cut a 1/2 inch white circle and glue it to the top of the
      bunting.

  Assembling the card:
    • Glue with adhesive the grass to the bottom edge of the light blue square.
    • Glue with adhesive the picket fence on the bottom edge of the light blue square on top of the grass.
    • Place a double thickness of the red and white bakers twine across the picket fence on the top rail and tape securely to the back of the light blue paper.
    • Glue with adhesive the blue square to the front of the red card base.
    • Hot glue the bunting on top of the bakers twine so that it looks like it is tied to the fence.
    • Glue with adhesive the sun to the top left corner of the light blue square.
    • Hot glue the button in the center of the sun.
    • Glue with adhesive the larger cloud to the right of the sun, slightly overlapping the two.
    • Glue with pop dots the smaller cloud just below and to the right of the sun.
    • Place pop dots on the matted graphic and place on the right above the fence.
Below is the completed card!  Hope you enjoy it and try your hand at scraplifting it like I did from the card making magazine I used!  Happy scraplifting!
